Bio – A little bit about Lisa Elbertsen

I moved to British Columbia in 1994 from Toronto, Ontario.  I dabbled with clay on and off in the 90’s when I lived in North Vancouver.  I have always wanted to learn pottery.  Living in apartments forced me to utilize local community studios but I did not have my own space to create.  When I moved to Squamish in 2003 there wasn’t a community studio in town so clay took a back-burner in my life.  In 2005 a short-lived community studio opened up and I took additional courses and finally set up a studio in my garage in 2005 fully equipped with a wheel, kiln and homemade glazes.

Since having my own space to create as well as living in such a beautiful place like Squamish, BC, the creative juices started flowing.  Since then I have sold my work online and a local craft fairs and art shows.

In 2007 I taught myself how to crochet and have been a complete addict ever since.  During the cold winter months when the garage was too cold and damp to go out and “play clay” I could now keep my hands busy and continue to create.

Pottery and crochet are my passion and my hobby.  Unfortunately I do not do pottery full time as a large chunk of my time is running my own corporate recruitment business.  So when I am not doing pottery or crocheting, you can find me here:  http://www.placementpros.ca/ which is my “other” life.

As of December 2010 my new pottery studio is complete and open for business!  I am so excited to have a heated space to call my own.  Lots of great lighting and a wonderful place to inspire even more creative juices to flow!  I mainly focus on hand-building as I love how unique and individual each piece looks.  I do some wheel work but my passion is hand-building.

I love pottery and crochet equally and feel fortunate that I am able to do both whenever I have the opportunity.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me!  Drop me a line!

I hope to see you soon!
